Spotlight: Maria Abraham

This month we are getting to know one of the property managers we partner with in Crest Hill, Illinois at The Woodlands of Crest Hill. Maria and the Community Life team have been doing great things for their community, bringing neighbors together for the past couple of years.

How long have you been the property manager at The Woodlands in Crest Hill?

2 years

How has Community Life helped impact your residents on property?

Hearing the stories of appreciation for the back to school events with free school supplies and Thanksgiving basket giveaways that have truly families in our community during times of needs or just a busy schedule. Community Life has helped residents make friends and build a sense of community at a property that is so large and often thought of as impossible.

What is your favorite event that your Community Life team has put together?

This is a hard question I would have to say (pi) day. The unique event drew so many to not only get a piece of pie but to have fun with math trivia as well.

What is something that is considered a luxury but you don't think you could live without?

Diet Cherry Pepsi

What are you currently reading/ Whats on your DVR?

My reading consists of children’s book, mainly potty training books since I have 2 toddlers. My DVR is full of reality TV…yes, I’m a reality tv junkie.

What is your favorite memory as a property manager?

It would be in August/September 2005 during Hurricane Katrina. I was working in Central IL and had received several families that showed up with all of their belongings in a van or trailer desperate for a place to live. Within hours, we were able to provide new homes for 3 families that had lost so much in the past days. Being able to help them with a place for them to rebuild their sense of a home and family touched me in so many ways. I was a full time college student and full time property manager at this time. I remember going to Krogers that evening and buying over $200 in groceries for them to have a couple of meals while they unpacked and went through the few belongings they were able to salvage.

When people come to you for help, what to do they usually want help with?

Honestly, it is usually just someone to listen.

What skill would you like to master?

I would like to master my communication skills in difficult situations/conversations.

Thank you for partnering with Community Life and building a genuine community in The Woodlands!
